Let the games begin!
Due February 17 — 15 pts.
Wow! Great job writing your theisis statements, but remember that a thesis statement should have two supporting details and be only one sentence long – TOTAL!
Now the fun part:
Read through the thesis statements your peers wrote. Choose a different topic than your own to comment about. Explain whether you agree or disagree and why. Comments should be no longer than 3 sentences and you will set up your response to look like this:
- In regards to what (Student’s name) said, …
- In response to (Student’s name) claim, …
- I agree with what (Student’s name) argues, …
- I disagree with what (Student’s name) argues, …
- (Student’s name) argues that…
Here are some real examples!
In response to Rosa’s statement that students should be charged if they are tardy, I disagree because some students use that money for lunch or the buses.
OR
Nasser argues that parents should not be allowed to view their child’s texts because it invades his/her privacy and I agree. Texting is a conversation meant for only the two people involved to see, not our parents.

Due date — Feb. 9 15 pts.
Choose one of the following topics to create a thesis statement for. POST YOUR THESIS STATEMENT and remember that your thesis statements must include two reasons why you chose to argue the affirmative or the negative. Good luck!
- Students should be charged $2 (Real money) if they are tardy to class more than two times each quarter.
- Parents should be allowed access to their child’s social pages (a.k.a. MySpace or Facebook)
- Cell phone companies should allow parents to view their child’s text messages
- Schools should remove the internet filters from the computers on campus
You will be asked to return and view other students’ posts at a later date.

Congratulations everyone! You all did an outstanding job with Blog #1. Some things to remember:
- Avoid using text talk (Ex. “u” or “b4″).
- Write your first name and last initial only!
- Grammar and spelling are part of your overall grade.
Below is your second writing prompt. You do not need to indent your responses, but your answer must be three to five sentences long. Good luck!
Imagine that you are one of the reporters who has interviewed Ponyboy and the other Curtis brothers. Write a paragraph for your newspaper that describes what you witnessed in the hospital room.
Your paragraph can be about the interaction between the Curtis brothers, about Pony’s experience, their background as brothers living on their own, or another topic that you may have “seen” when you were there.
